Liam & Dominique Shaw - Authors, Educators and Photographers of Weddings

”Our ambition has never been to take great "wedding" photographs, weddings simply grant us license to explore community and humanity through the lens”

Wedding photography is a category filled with presumption. Romance, rings, decor and tradition - these are the photographs we assume that our couples expect. But if we forget about photographing “the wedding” and look instead to the people in attendance, then a world of possibility is opened. The structure of wedding days is repetitive but the stories within them are not: they exist not in action but in reaction; found in the relationships between people, the humour of the moment and the hidden connections between each element of the frame. The moments we love are not those that scream out to be photographed - the confetti, the entrance of the bride etc, they are the moments that whisper so gently that it’s unclear whether there was even a “moment” at all. The scenes and photographs that pose a question always at the forefront of the photographic mind: “Is This Something?”
