Welcome to "Capture the City," a one-day immersive street photography workshop designed to help you master the art of capturing authentic moments in urban environments. Led by Ian Weldon, this course will equip you with the skills and confidence to explore the streets and tell compelling visual stories through your lens.

Duration: 1 day (approximately 6-8 hours but longer if we end up squiffy in the pub )

Location: Newcastle City Centre

Morning - Presentation/Discussion

• Introduction to Street Photography

• Fundamentals of Composition

• Camera Settings and Techniques

• Approaching Subjects Ethically

• The Law

Afternoon - Practical Session

• Guided walk through diverse urban environments

• Observing and identifying interesting subjects and scenes

• Practicing techniques learned in the morning session

• Creative Challenges and Assignments

• Participants will be given creative prompts and challenges

• Encouraged to experiment with different styles and perspectives

• Group review and constructive feedback on images captured during the day

Requirements:

• Digital camera - DSLR, mirrorless, compact, phone - it doesn’t really matter

• Fully charged batteries, and memory cards

• Comfortable walking shoes

• Note-taking materials

• Laptop, if you have one, and a means of transferring photos from your camera.

• Enthusiasm for exploring and capturing the urban environment

Notes:

Please keep all gear to a bare minimum. It’s hard to be candid when you have cameras dangling from every limb.

Pick 1 lens and challenge yourself to work with if for the full day. If you normally shoot with a zoom lens, try shooting exclusively using a prime lens, and visa versa. (35mm is my preferred lens)

This course is for anyone interested in making street photos but please be aware that there will be a lot of walking involved and it can get quite hilly in Newcastle.

Weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes are a must!
